Electroshock: Electricity price increase up to 40% planned for winter

Greeks are expected to experience yet another “electroshock” this winter as electricity bills are estimated to rise by 40%!

And all this despite the fact that they have already had many other types of shock associated with the prices of food, fuel, everything that is sold and everything that moves and does not move. All this, of course, happens because Greece has chosen “right side of history”in connection with which the countries of Western Europe are expected to suffer greatly due to the lack of food, energy and raw materials.

Measures against rising electricity prices and expensive tariffs will be in place until the end of 2023. But already from December, according to experts of the energy market, the population and enterprises are expecting a new increase in tariffs. As long as they work:

  • restrictions on the wholesale electricity market;
  • freeze indexing;
  • limitation of the marginal price index;
  • announcement by suppliers of electricity prices as of the 20th day of the month.

After the expiration of the above provisions, the electricity bill and prices will again be in the spotlight, as everything leads to new increases, and, according to some estimates, they can be more than 40%.

In anticipation of the increase and to prevent a shock to consumers, the government is preparing a new system of measures, as well as changes in the social tariff. According to Environment and Energy Minister Theodoros Skilakakis, the definition of energy consumers from economically vulnerable consumers is different. As an example, he cited different household heating needs in areas with low temperatures compared to areas with mild winters.

So those who live in Attica will receive the “electric shock”, i.e. half of the inhabitants of Greece… Nikitas Makridis, Analyst of Αλλάζω Ρεύμα (Let’s Change Electricity), in the TV program Ώρα Ελλάδος (Greek Time) OPEN analyzed the prices that citizens will have to pay in the next period. According to him, from December to February 2024, there will be an increase in natural gas prices, which will affect electricity prices.

Until the end of 2023, citizens will not see the difference, but from the new year, the increase will be in the range of 7-12%, that is, from 5 to 10 euros, which will affect regulated tariffs, fixed payments that we pay for cables, utilities, etc. .d. According to him, from 2024 we will have three types of electricity tariffs:

  1. fixed price for one month;
  2. fixed price for a longer period;
  3. variable price.

However, lest we forget, any “help” from the state is financed by rising electricity prices, for which, in the end, the citizens themselves pay. At the same time, not all of those who apply for benefits can receive it.
