The surface of the sea at the ancient port of Lehaio in Corinth has turned yellow, worrying townspeople who fear it may be the result of water pollution.

As reporters saw with their own eyes, the sea really turned an unusual color – the water off the coast became deep yellow. Some local residents suspected that the cause of this phenomenon was pollution of the water area due to the discharge of an unknown liquid into the water. According to others, the sea was colored due to a microalgae bloom.

In order not to disturb the public, korinthostv.gr asked an environmental specialist for comment, who stated that this phenomenon is often observed in the spring season and is associated with pollen that enters the water and creates such a change in the color of the sea surface. “This all happens due to the flowering of conifers, in this case mainly pine trees. I assure you that changing the color of the sea will not bring any harm. The pollen was simply blown to the sea by the wind, it fell into the water, after which the water partially changed color,” the expert explained.

He added that one should not be surprised by such a phenomenon – it is periodically observed off the coast of this area. After two or three days, the water will return to its usual blue color.
