Weather forecast: rain and storms in Athens and Thessaloniki on Saturday


According to meteo.gr/National Observatory of Athens, today, Holy Saturday, unsettled weather will prevail in most parts of Greece. Weather conditions are expected to improve on Easter Sunday.

This morning, localized rain will occur in western and northern Greece, on the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean Sea, and the bad weather will cover more and more areas. The most intense phenomena will be in central and northern Greece, on the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean Sea and in the Dodecanese.

In continental areas, brief hail showers are likely. Rain and sporadic storms are forecast in Thessaloniki, with scattered rain possible in Athens in the afternoon.

Forecast for Saturday May 4

First, in the Ionian Sea, in the west and north of the mainland and on the islands of the north-eastern Aegean Sea, and from midday gradually on the rest of the country, clouds with local rains are expected, in Thrace and on the islands of the eastern Aegean Sea – sporadic storms. The phenomena will weaken from midday in the west and gradually in the north, and in the evening they will be limited to the eastern mainland and the Aegean region.

Wind west/northwest, from 4 to 6, and in the Ionian and southern Aegean Sea in some places up to 7 on the Beaufort scale. The temperature will drop slightly, the thermometer will show 20-22°C in the north and 22-24°C in the rest of the country.

Forecast for Easter Sunday May 5

In the Central and Southern Aegean Sea, in the eastern part of Sterea and Evia, cloudy weather with localized rain is expected in the morning. Soon the phenomena will stop in most areas, and only in Crete the bad weather will continue until the evening. In other regions there will be a temporary increase in cloudiness, in some places in continental regions – in the afternoon and daytime hours – there will be sporadic rain in the mountains.

Winds in the west of the country will be from the north/northwest, from 4 to 6 on the Beaufort scale, but the intensity will quickly decrease to between 3 and 4. In the east of the country the wind is north, from 4 to 6 points, in the Aegean Sea at times up to 7 points on the Beaufort scale. Temperatures will rise across the country.
