"Sea of cappuccino": This you have not seen before

A natural phenomenon dubbed the “cappuccino coast” has reappeared on the beaches of southern Crete as a result of weather conditions in the last few hours.

Abundant foam, whipped up by the waves, appeared on the beach of Matala, mainly in Komos. Essentially this process of self-cleaning of the sea that occurs during periods of weather conditionsthat were recorded in the previous day, that is, strong waves and stormy winds. According to Cretalive, large waves carried foam that washed up on the beach, creating the appearance of a giant cup of cappuccino.

According to scientists, the “cappuccino coast” phenomenon occurs when salts, impurities, chemicals, plankton, algae and decaying marine life mix in the sea. As a result of strong currents, these wastes mix with each other, as a result of which, one might say, in the process of “fermentation,” bubbles are formed, which the waves carry to the shore. A couple of years ago, a similar thing happened on the island of Kythira.
