Strong thunderstorm activity was noted by the National Meteorological Service in the western Peloponnese.
Lightning strikes and a storm, one after another, hit Western Greece. Cyclone Oliver, coming from the northwest and carrying cold air, is forecast to cause worse weather this weekend.
Severe weather “Oliver” brings hurricane-force winds across much of the country, heavy rain, occasional storms and snow. In a Facebook post, meteorologist Yiannis Kallianos says there will be “little surprises” in terms of where snow is expected to fall between Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon.
However, many areas will experience heavy rainfall. Snow is expected only in areas where snowfall usually occurs (highlands and northern Greece). The wind is stormy, especially on Saturday and until Sunday morning. The average intensity will reach 8-9 on the Beaufort scale, and gusts can even reach 10-11.
