The November full moon, or “beaver moon”, will appear in the sky on November 27, 2023 and will be the second to last one this year – the third autumn full moon.

Why is the Moon in November called Beaver? According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac (a 1972 collection of weather forecasts and astrological data), the name of the phenomenon has several origins.

According to one version, this is due to the fact that the Moon appears during the season when beavers hide in their burrows before the onset of cold weather. This makes sense since this is the start of North America’s hunting and fur trading month.

The tradition of coming up with names for the full moon came from Indian tribes. They were based on the characteristics of the months, weather conditions and habits of the inhabitants of the animal world. They say that the whole of November is “beaver month.”

The full moon is also called “frost”. It can be observed from anywhere in the hemisphere, unless there is bad weather.
