A firefighter who went missing in July in the village of Amfitea in the municipality of Dirfion Messapia in Evia has been found dead.
The man disappeared on July 22, when he went out for a walk and did not return. Yesterday, August 12, a local farmer discovered his remains in the morning in a wooded area in Lefkada. The shocked president of the Amfiteya community, Thanasis Barotas, said:
“Unfortunately, our unfortunate countryman met a tragic end. This morning a tar farmer found his clothes in the woods. I immediately went to the scene with the police and recognized the clothes that he was wearing. We are all in shock in the village.”
DNA testing will be done to identify the remains, although everything points to the missing 55-year-old firefighter Apostolos Castanas. The man had a terrible end – according to evidence, he was torn to pieces and eaten by wild boars, writes evima.gr.
