Syngro-Fix: vandals destroyed the station

According to the Greek media, which refer to the data of law enforcement agencies, last night, from October 1 to October 2, ten people entered the metro station and began to smash everything.

In particular, according to ΕΛΑΣaround 23:00 attackers in helmets and surgical masks smashed two ATMs and protective glasses of cash desks, fled the scene of the crime.

The police made three arrests, but later these people were released because they had nothing to show (as well as establish involvement in the attack on the metro station). Police are investigating to identify the perpetrators, who will be billed for property damage to government property.

Recall that back in 2017, when attacks by vandals at the Athens metro stations became more frequent, and thugs destroyed composters at one of the central stations, despite the fact that security services could not do anything about it (somehow stop the thugs with sledgehammers), The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport said that “it is necessary to stop hiring security guards in private companies, and to involve professional police officers.”

The innovation was made in order to radically “eliminate damage to the metro infrastructure.” Since then, about two hundred police officers have gone to work to take over the responsibility of guarding metro and S-Bahn stations, and accordingly, “private security” has been abolished.

“The government’s goal is for the police to do their job without any other obligations,” the minister said. However, “a lot of water has flowed under the bridge” since then, and a period of pandemic and crisis has come. Who is now responsible for the protection of the subway, is unknown.
