Despite the fact that electricity theft has now become a criminal offense, instead of reducing the scale of the phenomenon, it is only increasing.
According to the publication, consumers have already paid about 800 million euros for electricity theft for 2021-2022 through invoices, and taking into account the tariffs of April this year, they also began to pay an increase of 500 million euros.
Organized groups of private electricians tamper with meters (to steal electricity) for a fee of 200 euros. Supervision by real electricians from the energy company DEDDIE is often a “dangerous mission” as criminals even threaten them with weapons. It seems that theft is (as one might expect) not by insolvent citizens, but, on the contrary, by enterprises with large incomes – from the catering sector, entertainment establishments, etc. And we, ordinary citizens, have to pay for them…
