Inflation is the biggest problem of citizens, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized in his speech at the 87th ΔΕΘ in Thessaloniki.
He noted that the benefits that have been and will continue to be issued represent a “small fraction.” According to him, the first pillar of the fight against rising prices is a stable and constant increase in income: “Inflation will decrease at some point, but wage increases will remain,” Mr. Mitsotakis characteristically noted. “We need sustainable and ongoing growth in disposable income through higher wages and lower taxes“, he emphasized.
The second pillar of overcoming difficulties is the stable functioning of the market, he emphasized. Answering a corresponding question on strengthening control in the market, he emphasized that inspections will become more frequent in the near future: “We are conducting systematic inspections to combat speculation. I want to stick to this vector. Now we can find out whether the price increase is justified. For example, the inflated prices for products from Thessaly are not justified. And if someone does this, we must find and punish the speculator. We have imposed fines on large companies for fictitious discounts. We will fight this battle, although it will not be easy to win. No matter how big the company (or business), violators will be identified and severely punished.”
