What's new in the lighting and music of Greek beaches

The Greek government is trying to restore relative order to the activities of beach bars ahead of the beach season.

This is stated in the joint ministerial decision, tells CNN Greece. which sets new rules for lighting and music in beach food establishments.

Lighting

If a business operates after sunset, it should have low and limited lighting, only necessary for operation, taking into account safety and orientation.

Under the new rules, lighting fixtures placed in bars must provide diffuse illumination and be configured in such a way as to prevent the formation of a light beam that could disorient animals, disturb visitors and residents of nearby buildings, and also affect watercraft. If lighting is provided by lighting fixtures on masts, they are placed outside the designed traffic corridors.

Wiring should go to lighting points, usually under the floor, protected by metal waterproof pipe channels, or exclusively from above – safely, elegantly and coordinated. For safety reasons, it is recommended to use a low voltage 48V (IP65) power supply.

Music

If a business installs sound systems, it must use a designated area and use low volume music.

Where the space provided is adjacent to residential areas, the noise level generated by music or related activities of the principal business shall not exceed 50 decibels at any point within the area. In all other cases, the noise level should not exceed 80 decibels.

Mobile snack bars (kαντίνες)

Mobile buffets (canteens) must be equipped with an operating permit. The maximum area they can occupy cannot exceed 15 sq.m. Canteens must be located at a distance of at least 100 meters from existing enterprises (hotels, entertainment centers, etc.) and at least 100 meters from each other.

Previously, our publication reported that the Office of the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court (Higher Administrative Court of Greece) called on prosecutors throughout the country to make one of their priorities maintaining unimpeded access to beaches.
