Secrets of the NATO summit became available to hackers “From Russia with love”

The Lithuanian police launched an investigation after the publication by hackers in social networks of information relating to the organization of the Vilnius NATO summit.

The information was confirmed on Thursday by the Police Department, writes BB.LV:

“The Lithuanian Criminal Police Bureau has launched a pre-trial investigation, cooperating with all institutions responsible for cybersecurity. No additional details are being released at this stage of the investigation.”

The day before, on Wednesday, the social network Telegram reported that hackers under the nickname “From Russia with Love” had gained access to the secret data of the organizers of the NATO summit about the security of the event. They became aware of the names of the officials responsible for the summit, the routes of the delegations, the security systems used and other information.

Among the published documents (their authenticity has not yet been confirmed by the authorities) are about thirty indicating the hotels where the heads of state and delegations stayed, the time of their arrival at airports, the names and surnames of the guards, the types of their weapons and the characteristics of their means of communication.

The names of the snipers of the special operations unit of the Lithuanian police Aras, the minutes of the meetings of the security group in preparation for the summit, where at that time decisions were planned to limit the airspace, transportation, transit of Russia and Belarus, were also made public.

On Wednesday, the State Security Department said it was investigating the incident. And on Thursday morning, Arvydas Anusauskas, Lithuania’s defense minister, said that the leak of information related to the organization of the NATO summit in Vilnius did not prevent the meeting from taking place. Such an attack was quite likely, and the published data is not NATO classified information.
