Teenager arrested in Paris: he wanted to “die as a martyr” at the Olympic Games (video)

French police have arrested a 16-year-old who planned to “die as a martyr” at the Paris Olympics.

A potential minor terrorist stated this on social networks. France has increased its security level to the highest level ahead of the Summer Olympics. Authorities fear the event could be marred by security incidents. A police spokesman announced the teenager's arrest, explaining that he had “publicly announced on social media that he plans to create an explosive belt to become a martyr.”

The arrest took place at his parents' house on Tuesday, following alleged posts on Telegram the previous day, BFMTV reported. During the search, handwritten papers were found in which the teenager declared support for the Islamic State. Law enforcement representative writes Sky News reported that an investigation was underway into whether the teenager had real intentions to commit a terrorist attack.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron previously admitted that the Olympic opening ceremony could be shortened if the security threat was deemed too high.
