A 20-year-old Irish citizen was found dead in a club pool in Laganas on the island of Zakynthos. The young man spent his summer holidays with friends on the Ionian Sea.
While the police on the island are investigating the cause of his death, a waitress told state broadcaster ERT that she saw him “he was pale and trembling”, and the next moment, while she was preparing two drinks, “he was in the pool.”
The owner of the club, who is also a lifeguard, immediately jumped into the pool and performed resuscitation procedures: “The young man was already dead, he didn’t vomit water,” the owner told Ionian TV.
The incident happened around 10 pm on Sunday. A well-known institution held parties from 6 to 11 pm, observing all security measures.
The young man was taken by private ambulance to the hospital, where doctors could only state his death.
His body will be autopsied in Patras, northwestern Peloponnese.
Initially it was reported that the young man was a “British tourist”, however, according to local mediahe turned out to be an Irish citizen.
