Killer beauty

Greek law enforcement agencies made two arrests, liquidating a criminal group whose members were engaged in the sale of unlicensed pharmaceutical and medical products used in cosmetology.

According to the report, one of the detainees was engaged in the illegal trade in Botox and hyaluronic acid, as well as the sale of face masks. Another arrested person played the role of a distributor. The goods came from Poland and Turkey. As it became known, the value of counterfeit products seized by the authorities exceeds 40,000 euros.

According to information ΕΛΑΣas part of the operational activities carried out on the morning of June 26, 2023, two people (a woman and a man) were detained in the Attica region, against whom a criminal case was initiated.

As it turned out during the investigation, the detainee had been selling counterfeit cosmetic products, as well as non-certified cosmetic face masks, since at least July 2019. About a month ago, she hired a courier who delivered orders to customers.

Criminal imported goods from Turkey and Poland through courier companies or personally, stored them in an apartment located in the Attica region, and advertised them through a page on a social network.

The clientele consisted of numerous medical clinics and beauty centers located in various regions of the country. The goods were delivered or sent in parcels with the appropriate payment either from hand to hand or cash on delivery.

As a result of the search, the following were found and seized:

• 226 drugs for pharmaceutical and medical equipment (Botox, hyaluronic acid preparations, etc.),
• 160 packs of aesthetic masks,
• 910 euros in cash,
• handwritten notes (“black bookkeeping”).

Confiscated drugs with a value exceeding EUR 40,000 are not considered safe and pose a health risk. All of them will be sent to the laboratory for examination.

The detainees, against whom a criminal case was initiated, were brought to the prosecutor’s office.
