Expert: “Sooner or later there will be a strong earthquake in Corinth – let’s get ready”

Seismologist Gerasimos Papadopoulos explains the situation in the Gulf of Corinth and reiterates that at some point a strong earthquake will hit the area.

In fact, he basically repeated everything that he had previously stated. The expert believes that the Gulf of Corinth is an area with increased seismicity, and in the future, with a high degree of probability, a strong earthquake will occur here. As he explains, it is impossible to accurately predict the timing of such a seismic vibration.

Mr. Papadopoulos, who participated in the information and science event on the topic “Earthquake, consequences, civil protection, volunteering and prevention”, held in Vrahati, in his interview to korinthostv.gr, mentioned yesterday’s earthquake of magnitude 4.2 to the west of the Gulf of Corinth , as well as the seismicity of the area. He stressed that “sooner or later, strong earthquakes will again occur in the region.”

He argued that prevention is the best medicine and there should be no cause for concern. Regarding the risk of a tsunami caused by a strong earthquake in the Gulf of Corinth, Mr. Papadopoulos states that “it is possible, but not necessary. In our science, certainty is minimal.”
