IN EU want to allow foreigners to obtain permanent resident status after three years of residence.
How tells BB.LV edition, changes are possible already this year. It is proposed that foreigners have the opportunity to apply for permanent residence after 3 years of residence in the European Union – now this period is five years. Periods of residence in all EU countries will be taken into account – during seasonal work, study or with the status of temporary protection.
Long-term residents of the EU will be able to move to work in other EU countries without restrictions and integration checks. However, it is noted that the upcoming changes will not affect the holders of “golden visas”.
To complete the amendments to the law, the governments of the EU countries must now agree on them and negotiate. It is possible that the process will be slowed down by politicians who believe that immigration issues should be decided at the national level.
