In Thessaloniki, the mother of a 15-year-old teenager filed a complaint accusing a police officer of violence against her son: “The policeman knocked my child down, beat and trampled him for 4 minutes.”
The incident happened on Thursday afternoon. A teenager and a friend were playing on Agia Paraskevi square in Menemeni. Seeing a bag of food lying unattended, they took it. The actions of teenagers drew the attention of a policeman who was not on duty.
Having first reprimanded the boys, the policeman, according to the teenager’s mother, knocked him down and kicked the guy lying on the ground. As a result of “educational measures” by the police, the teenager was taken to the Papageorgiou hospital with head injuries and bruises.
His mother Maria Theodorakis, having learned about the beating of her son, asked the policeman for an explanation, to which he said: “I did him good.” The teenager’s father found the officer and beat him up. The policeman was taken to the 424 military hospital, both men were arrested and then released on the order of the prosecutor. The father said in his explanation:
“My child was attacked very severely by a police officer. I am concerned about his health, since Thursday he has been in the hospital with injuries to his face and head. More serious are the psychological injuries that this child received. He is 15 years old, he is at a critical age” .
Mother tells what happened on that ill-fated Thursday, writes newsbeast.gr:
“The child found with his friends an abandoned bag of meat and took it. He didn’t even have it with him, he left it in the churchyard, thinking that someone who needed it more would take it. The policeman was off duty, he was sitting in a cafe with a friend and, noticing that 2-3 children were coming to the square, he decided to show his strength and power over my child.His friend took the bag to the hostess, and she didn’t even say that the bag was stolen, she said that she bag outside the store and can’t find it.Cop lashed out at my kid with abusive comments about his skin color because he’s a little darker than me, which made me ask if “his skin color is to blame” It’s 2023, and the child has to apologize for his skin color he cursed him and called him a “thief” he knocked him down and trampled him for four minutes the child is in severe shock, cannot sleep at night, he has nightmares that he is being strangled. He tried to kill him. God help us. He has a head injury. We filed a complaint with the police, also the police filed a complaint against my husband. I’m looking for justice, not silence on this case.”
