Arrests in Kallithea, another incident at the Center for Disabled Children

Police officers from the security service of the Athens district of Kallithea arrived at the Center for the Disabled on the call of a passerby: he found a child walking along the cornice of the third floor of the building.

The incident took place at the Center for Special Therapy for Children with Disabilities. How long the boy was in a precarious position without causing an adult reaction is unknown. The police detained the person responsible for the work of the center and three employees of the institution.

After the arrest of four parent workers, about 15 children who were at the center at the time were asked to come and pick up their child. An 11-year-old boy, the “culprit” of the incident, was handed over by special forces to his mother in the Menidi region.

The incident became known after a report by actress Nena Chronopoulou, who called on the relevant authorities to intervene in the situation at the Center for Special Treatment for Disabled Children in Kallithea, writes CNN Greece.

The photo shows how an 11-year-old child walks from side to side along the window ledge, which is located at a height of three floors from the ground. It is not known how long the boy was there until another child approached him from inside, pulling back the curtain.

According to the website kallitheaonline.grwho posted the photo, the frightening incident happened at noon last Tuesday. A passer-by took a picture of the child with his mobile phone and reported it to the police.

According to a police report, this is far from the first time the center has raised concerns from authorities that minors are at risk. Not so long ago, 4 cases were initiated against the heads of the special center for exposing minors to danger:

  • One case concerns a child, who, fortunately very quickly, was found by the Kallithea security police on … Theseus Avenue.
  • Another case concerns an orphan child from the center who left the institution and was found by the police … in the square of Attica.
  • In another case, a small child was … forgotten outside the center.

Earlier allegations of child abuse were also recorded. Perhaps at least this incident, which could well have become a tragedy, will finally help to make some kind of effective decision.
