Russian and Ukrainian football players staged a fight in a Turkish hotel

As if Turkey not enough destructive earthquakes, and she touched … the Russian-Ukrainian war, when Russian and Ukrainian football players staged a mass brawl in an Antalya hotelwhere they happened to “live together” after the earthquake.

On February 13, a mass brawl took place in the Turkish Royal Seginus hotel, in which the players of the Yaroslavl Shinnik and the Ukrainian club Minai, representing the village of the same name in the Transcarpathian region, took part. As a result of the brawl, which, according to the Baza Telegram channel, began after a provocation by Ukrainian players, four Shinnik players were injured.

The police did not detain any of the participants in the fight, having decided to strengthen security measures at the hotel. The players of the Russian team will have to leave the hotel so that the conflict situation does not happen again.

According to the Ukrainian Twitter account Zorya Londonsk, the fight broke out when a player from FC Mynay reprimanded a colleague from Yaroslavl’s Shinnik for inappropriate behavior towards a hotel employee. The Russian footballer was reportedly “drunk and downright rude” and refused to apologize for his actions, causing the Ukrainian to hit him.

At one point, teammates of the two “protagonists” of the brawl grappled with each other, with four Shinnik players from Yaroslavl likely suffering fractures during the wild brawl. Turkish police were called to defuse the situation, and ambulances also arrived at the scene to pick up the victims.

The mass brawl took place in the 30×12 format, where the numerical advantage was on the side of the Ukrainian team.

FC Minay released an official statement on Tuesday about the incident, confirming that there was indeed a fight and specifying that the Russian players were to blame. “The cause of the fight was the disrespectful behavior of the players of the Russian national team in relation to the hotel workers and provocative voices addressed to the Minai players,” the message says. The Russian club “Shinnik” made a similar statement. According to the Russian football players, the Ukrainians from the Minay team deliberately provoked them into a fight in the Turkish Royal Seginus hotel.

“In the evening, several players from the Transcarpathian club Minai approached the players from the Yaroslavl Shinnik to find out why they did not protest against the government and did not take to the squares. But the dialogue did not work out. with this, the Ukrainian players asked if he spoke Russian. After that, a mass brawl broke out between the athletes.” The Shinnik players believe that the Ukrainians knew about the arrival of the Russian team at the hotel and were specially preparing for a fight, provoking them with pro-Ukrainian slogans.

To calm the athletes, the police had to be called to the hotel, but they did not detain or draw up any documents. In total, four Russian football players were injured as a result of the fight, and it is now unclear whether they will be able to play in the near future – they should be checked for possible fractures. One of the players of the Yaroslavl team, on condition of anonymity, said that the striker Ilya Gruznov received damage to the ribs during the fight, their fracture is possible. Midfielder Dmitry Samoilov has a suspected broken finger, both players will undergo a medical examination in the near future.

According to one of the Shinnik players, after the fight, one of the staff of the Ukrainian team headquarters warned them that the Russians had better leave the hotel as soon as possible. Because the Ukrainians are “serious”, and the conflict could flare up with renewed vigor.

On the morning of February 14, a meeting was held between representatives of the hotel, the police and the two clubs, where it was decided that the Yaroslavl team would change their place of residence and continue to prepare for the spring part of the First League championship in another hotel.
