Zakynthos: the famous “Shipwreck” beach is closed again this year

According to a joint ministerial decision, the Shipwreck Beach (Navagio), one of the most famous in Zakynthos, will remain closed. There will be no access to it either from land or from sea.

According to imarazante.gr, a decision has been published in the Official Gazette on the measures that will be applied this year in Navagio to ensure the safety of visitors. Based on the decision signed by the Ministers of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis, Shipping and Island Policy Christos Stylianides, Tourism Olga Kefalogianni and the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Vassilis Kikilias, this year tourists will again not be able to visit the beach and plateau, as was the case in the past year.

This means that “Shipwreck” will remain closed, i.e., movement and approach to the parking lot of watercraft, as well as swimming in the water area is prohibited. As for the upper part, the plateau (where tourists loved to take selfies), access to it is also prohibited (the prohibition limit is 10 meters from the edge of the cliff).

On May 7, Zakynthos MP D. Aktipis and Mayor G. Stasinopoulos visited the Navagio plateau to install signs informing visitors about the dangers in the area. The mayor of Zakynthos noted: “Hundreds of people visit the shipwreck site, but unfortunately there is no security there.”
