Bad weather again, with African dust and storms


A drop in temperature, rain and African dust are very close. The first manifestations of bad weather will begin today, May 8, and instability will last until Saturday.

According to meteorologists

Forecasters predict that in some regions of the country the air temperature will not exceed 20°C. Tasos Arniakos noted that instability will be more intense in the central and northern regions, leading to localized rain and sporadic storms. From this evening these phenomena are expected to spread westwards and into Crete.

Meteorologist Yannis Kallianos notes that the weather today will be rainy, with showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will remain at high levels for now, reaching 29°C, but starting tomorrow the mercury will begin to decline.

The evening will become cloudier with rain in western Greece. Thursday and Friday are days with unstable weather. There will be a lot of rain, thunderstorms are possible, the wind will increase and the temperature will drop. African dust will be observed mainly in the west and south.

Sakis Arnautoglu notes on his personal Facebook account that tomorrow, May 9, a barometric minimum is expected due to an anticyclone in western Europe, and bad weather is expected in some areas.

Weather forecast for today

Rare clouds are thickening in places – first in the Ionian Sea, and then gradually in other regions. Localized showers will occur from midday in the western, central and northern continental areas and in the evening hours in the Ionian Islands, southern Peloponnese and Crete. Sporadic storms are expected from midday, mainly in the mountains of the western and northern country. Wind variable, 3 to 4 Beaufort, southeast to 5 Beaufort from midday. The air temperature will reach 25-28°C.

Attica

Partly cloudy, cloudy in the evening. Wind southeast from 3 to 4 on the Beaufort scale. Temperature 15-26°C.

Thessaloniki

Scattered clouds, cloudy from midday. There will be some scattered showers and thunderstorms in the surrounding mountains this afternoon. Wind variable and light until lunch, in the afternoon southeast, from 3 to 4 points on the Beaufort scale. Temperature from 13 to 25°C.

Forecast for Thursday, May 9.

Intermittently cloudy, with localized rain in the west and south, and gradually over the rest of the country. Isolated storms from early morning in Crete and possibly the Cyclades, from midday in the eastern and northern continental areas, in the evening the phenomena will be limited to Thessaly, eastern Sterea, Evia, Macedonia, Thrace, Crete and the North Aegean Sea.

The wind is easterly, from 3 to 5 points, in some places up to 6 points on the Beaufort scale. During the day in the west, north winds range from 4 to 5 on the Beaufort scale. Temperatures will drop mainly in the west, center and north, reaching 22–24°C, in Crete – 24–26°C.

Forecast for Friday May 10th.

In the west, increased cloudiness; localized rain and isolated thunderstorms in the midday and afternoon hours in continental areas. The rest of the country will be cloudy with localized rain and sporadic storms, mainly in the south. By evening the phenomena will subside.

The wind will be southeast from 5 to 7 points, gradually the direction will change to northwest, up to 6 points on the Beaufort scale. In other areas the wind is northerly, from 4 to 6 points, in the Aegean Sea from 6 to 7 points and locally in the northern part of the Aegean Sea up to 8 points on the Beaufort scale. Temperatures will drop in the south and rise slightly in the west.

Forecast for Saturday May 11th.

Cloudy with localized rain mainly in the Ionian and continental regions, with the exception of Thrace. Isolated storms in western continental areas during the afternoon and evening hours.

The wind is south, from 3 to 4 points, in the Ionian Sea locally 5 points on the Beaufort scale, in the east, north from 3 to 5 points, in the Aegean Sea 6 -7 points on the Beaufort scale. Temperatures will drop slightly in the west.

Forecast for Sunday May 12th.

At noon and afternoon, increased clouds, localized showers and isolated thunderstorms in the mountains. The wind in the west is variable, from 3 to 4 points on the Beaufort scale, in the east – north, from 4 to 5 points, in the Aegean Sea – up to 6 points on the Beaufort scale. The temperature will rise slightly.
