More than 8,000 rescued from rubble in Turkey

Search and rescue teams have rescued more than 8,000 people in Turkey trapped in ruins that collapsed during a 7.8 magnitude earthquake.

Such data was presented by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, informs Anadolu edition. Seismic activity, covering an area of ​​500 kilometers in 10 provinces with a population of 13.5 million citizens, caused massive destruction. Together with cities located near the epicenter, where tremors were felt, the number of people affected by the disaster is approaching 20 million. Erdogan stated:

“We are facing one of the largest natural disasters not only in our country, but also in the history of mankind. As we sort through the rubble of thousands of buildings destroyed by this earthquake, which is called the catastrophe of the century, unfortunately, the number of our losses is increasing. We “We have discharged from hospitals a significant part of more than 81 thousand of our citizens who survived the earthquake with injuries. We continue to treat the rest. The number of people whom our search and rescue teams rescued from the rubble is more than 8 thousand.”

The city of Nurdagi in the Turkish province of Gaziantep, which was most severely affected by the earthquake, was decided to be completely demolished and rebuilt.

As of the evening of February 14, the death toll in Turkey and Syria exceeded 41,000, Anadolu reported. 35,418 people died in Turkey, 5,814 in Syria, reported Reuters. Eight days after the earthquake, at least ten people were rescued yesterday.
