The Greek Police Department of Internal Affairs arrested a 29-year-old police officer on Sunday for sexually assaulting his 4-year-old daughter.
The arrest came after his ex-wife accused him of a crime and after the girl was examined by a pediatrician, gynecologist and child psychologist at a state hospital, media reported on Monday.
The initial evidence in the case was transferred to the relevant authorities and to the prosecutor who ordered the arrest.
Through his lawyer, the officer denies all charges and denounces his ex-wife for staging the entire story.
The couple got married in 2017, and a year later, shortly after the birth of the child, the wife filed for divorce, accusing her husband of domestic violence, ANT1 TV reports.
A police officer serving in the countryside was reportedly suspended from work. He is due to testify to the prosecutor this coming Thursday.
