Olympic torch relay: traffic restrictions in Athens and Attica on Friday


Due to the Olympic torch relay being held and handed over to the Paris 2024 Olympic Committee at the Panathenaic Stadium (Kalimarmaro), traffic restrictions will be temporarily introduced in Athens and Attica on Friday 26 April.

They will be introduced at different time slots throughout the day, starting at 08:00 in Megara, Marathonas, Rafina and Sounio, before the relay reaches Paleo Faliro, Posidonos Avenue, Kallithea (Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center), ending at 18:30 in the area of ​​Syntagma Square and the stadium. Stopping and parking on affected roads will be prohibited and drivers are asked to follow directions from traffic police.

After an 11-day journey through Greece, the Olympic flame will be handed over to the Paris 2024 organizing committee delegation on Friday. The handover ceremony will begin on Friday, April 26, at 18:30 at the Panathinaikos Stadium (Kallimarmaro) in the center of Athens, with the participation of world famous artist Nana Mouskouri, and the event will be hosted by Nikos Aliagas.

The Olympic flame will be carried to Panathinaikos Stadium by Greek race walking champion Antigoni Drisbiotis, while the final torchbearer in Kalimarmaro will be Greek polo captain Ioannis Fountoulis, along with his Tokyo Olympic silver medal-winning teammates. At the end of the event, the President of the Greek Olympic Committee, Spyros Kapralos, will hand over the Olympic flame to the President of the PARIS 2024 Organizing Committee, Tony Estanga, so that he can continue his journey to Paris.
