Meeting of the Russian ambassador to Afghanistan with the Taliban

Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan Dmitry Zhirnov met with representatives of the Taliban: “We had a positive and constructive meeting.”

The RIA Novosti edition quotes the ambassador’s words on the air of the Russia 24 TV channel:

They were the senior Taliban in the city. The meeting was positive and constructive. Taliban officials said the Taliban * have the friendliest, nicest approach to Russia. They confirmed to us the security guarantees of the embassy. There will be no obstacles to the embassy’s activities. There will be no deterioration of the status in comparison with the previous government. All our needs will be met.

The situation in Afghanistan has escalated in recent weeks, following the rapid Taliban advance across the country and taking control of it. The day before yesterday, the fifteenth of August, the militants entered Kabul… Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, not wanting a massacre, left the country. On the night of August 16, a representative of the Taliban political office, Mohammad Naim, said that the war in Afghanistan was over, and the form of government in the state would become clear in the near future.
