China’s National Health Commission (NHC) said Tuesday that a 41-year-old man from China’s eastern province of Jiangsu has confirmed the first human case of the H10N3 avian influenza strain.
A resident of Zhejiang city was hospitalized on April 28 due to fever and other symptoms, the NHC said in a statement. On May 28, he was diagnosed with the H10N3 avian influenza virus, but details of how he contracted it have not been reported.
No other human cases of H10N3 infection have been reported in the world in the past, according to the NHC. It is an uncommon pathogen or a relatively less serious strain of the virus in poultry, and the risk of spreading it on a large scale is assessed as “very low,” the Kitavya National Health Commission added.
The man is in a stable condition and is already preparing to be discharged from the hospital. Medical observation of his loved ones did not reveal others infected with this virus.
