The freighter Alexis, en route from Ukraine to Egypt, ran aground in the Bosphorus Strait due to a malfunction.
Traffic in the Bosphorus Strait was suspended due to an incident with a cargo ship. reports CNN Turk. The General Directorate of Coastal Safety said the 229-meter-long vessel ran aground and rescue teams were sent to it. The message says:
“The movement of ships in the Bosphorus is temporarily suspended in both directions. A 229-meter long cargo ship called ALEXIS ran aground in front of the Istanbul breakwater Haydarpaşa due to an equipment malfunction while sailing from Ukraine to Egypt. Our tugs KURTARMA-6 were immediately sent to the scene of the incident , KURTARMA-8, KURTARMA-18, high-speed rescue boats KEGM-4, KEGM-6 and divers.”
As you know, the strait is an important trade route and the only route from the Black Sea to the Mediterranean Sea.
