New electricity tariffs: 15-17 eurocents per kilowatt-hour in August

Minister of Energy Kostas Skrekas announced government subsidies for paying electricity bills, at the same time that supplier tariffs were announced.

The minister announced that “cuts” on electricity bills are extended, for which the state allocated a total subsidy of 1,136,100 billion euros in August. The final consumer prices for electricity in August are set at 15-17 euro cents per kilowatt-hour, writes lifo.gr.

In particular, the household tariff subsidy (without income criterion for all consumption and all residences, fixed and non-residential properties) is 337 euros per megawatt-hour (0.337 euros per kilowatt-hour). The total amount of subsidies reaches 1.136 billion euros next month and covers 90% of residential electricity consumers. At the same time, this also applies to 100% of recipients of social benefits (EEE-KEA) and 80% of small and medium-sized enterprises.

Tariffs previously announced by suppliers are indicative: ΔΕΗ €0.486/kWh, Heron €0.495/kWh, Protergia €0.54913/kWh with further differences in flat rates for each supplier. The final price is obtained by deducting the state subsidy from the invoices issued by the suppliers. Announcement of information (from all suppliers) is expected during the day.

Mr Skrekas emphasized that Benefit from a new reimbursement mechanism (subsidized electricity bills) for the first month of application is estimated at 500 million euros (while, according to him, a similar mechanism implemented in Spain brought in 250 million euros). The minister added that With the new system, consumers have the opportunity to find out the real price of each supplier in a timely and transparent manner. “Everything is clean, transparent, and consumers can choose their electricity supplier on their own,” the minister concluded.

Earlier, suppliers reported that the price of the nominal tariff for electricity in August was approaching 50 cents per kilowatt-hour. However, the final price was formed after subsidies.

ΔΕΗ, which has the largest share in the supply of electricity, announced that the tariff for August will be 0.486 euros per kilowatt-hour (0.498 for consumption over 2,000 kilowatt-hours in four months). Heron’s tariff for the next month is 0.495 EUR/kWh, Protergia’s is 0.54913 EUR/kWh, and the announcement of tariffs by all suppliers is expected gradually. It is noted that additional differences apply to fixed payments per supplier.

Under the new regulation, tariffs from August will not have an adjustment clause and will be announced in advance by all suppliers, and consumers will be able to change the supplier without any conditions. September tariffs will be announced by 20 August.
