Mykonos is again under the gun of the tax authorities

The auditors of the Independent State Revenue Administration increased their visits to shops (catering establishments) in tourist areas for the purpose of checking. And, apparently, the catch turned out to be considerable!

As you know, first of all they check whether checks are issued to customers (an indispensable obligation provided by law).

Secondly, their authenticity is checked. That is, is the cash or tax mechanism, as it is called, really legal and declared (and not “twisted”).

Thus, the inspectors who arrived in Mykonos began their direct duties. Checking one famous beach restaurant took place on Friday evening, July 22.

The auditors, seeing that there were checks on all the tables, proceeded to check the cash register. There it was discovered that the company issued 1,130 receipts for a total of 85,450 euros, but they were issued by a machine that was not declared to the tax office! In other words, the turnover of funds was not taken into account anywhere, and VAT (VAT) settled in the pockets of the owners of the establishment, who do not even pay income tax on specific amounts.

Immediately, fines of 500 euros were imposed for a “non-compliant cash register”. At the same time, an in-depth check of the functioning of the enterprise in an expanded form began.

In general, the “negative glory of Mykonos” seems to be “running ahead of him” in the next season. As previously written “Athenian News”, tourists visiting the island of the Winds are often dissatisfied with their vacation. No sooner had the season started than Mykonos had already managed to “light up” in many negative reports – both in our country and abroad. Mostly because of the astronomical prices that tourists have to pay for food or the basic amenities provided to them.

In a new video that has gone viral on the internet, renowned travel blogger “Sunday Travel” lists three reasons she will never take a vacation to Mykonos again in her life. It is worth noting that most commentators were on her side. Many Greeks agreed that “Mykonos is not the whole of Greece.”

Here they are, these 3 reasons:

  1. Terrible situation in the port. As “Sunday Travel” rightly points out, most islands accept a certain amount of tourists that they can handle. When cruise ships arrive in Mykonos every day with thousands of tourists arriving on the island for just a few hours, this number is impossible to control. As a result, all the lanes of the island are filled (impossible to push through). In addition, you have to wait for hours to sit down at a table. At the same time, tourists who have descended from cruise ships, according to the American, do not respect Mykonos, leave garbage everywhere, and then leave the island as if nothing had happened.
  2. The general climate of Mykonos, which does not suit the average traveler. As a US traveler says, the island is “the playground of the rich”, so if you just want to see something truly “Greek”, you should not go here.
  3. Price. It’s clear and we all know it. Mykonos is the most expensive Greek island, with prices at least twice as high as in other similar places. For this reason, especially this year, more and more travel agencies are offering their audience to visit Paros, Sifnos, Milos or Naxos instead of the cosmopolitan Mykonos.
