The intense weather events that Cyclone Diomides brought to Syros played out in earnest on the night of Monday 10 January to Tuesday.
Bad weather with torrential rains and thunderstorms hit the island. According to cyclades24.gr, there were moments when “night turned into day” due to the huge amount of lightning continuously ripping through the sky.
One such lightning struck a wind turbine installed in the town of Voulias and destroyed it.
Lightning reportedly struck the middle of a windmill blade, damaging the green power plant.
