What awaits us in 2022: what additional measures are being considered by the authorities

The authorities of the country, wishing all citizens “happy holidays” with additional measures introduced, nevertheless express concern about the Omicron mutation. In Greece, 17 cases of the new variant of the coronavirus are currently officially diagnosed.

And while Megaro Maximu’s government mansion rejects the possibility of a new isolation, what is happening in Europe is unlikely to leave Greece unaffected. Therefore, the choice of additional measures seems to be a “one-way street”.

The first goal is to increase vaccination coverage (especially for vulnerable groups), since both the government and members of scientific committees believe that in about 20 days we will see the first patients with Omicron in hospitals.

Citizens’ response to calls from the government and epidemiologists to conduct self-tests (free of charge) before the holidays was low.

One of the ideas raised and discussed by the authorities is the introduction of a mandatory test (without specifying which test) for travelers returning from vacation (after the holidays). Although there is still no information about who this will affect and in what cases (whether you went to the village to visit your parents or visited a foreign ski resort).

As for the vaccination of children aged 5 to 11, according to the data provided by the Ministry of Health, to date 35,000 people have been vaccinated or booked an appointment.
