Police handcuffed an 85-year-old man who shot and killed a stray dog in the Halastra area of Thessaloniki on Thursday afternoon.
According to neighbors, an elderly man shot at a stray dog and wounded it in the rear of its body. The animal was taken to a veterinarian to receive the necessary care.
A case has been opened against the man for violating animal protection legislation, which will be referred to the competent prosecutor.
According to him, a stray dog caught his chickens, and he, they say, defended his property. However, according to Greek law, he faces a prison term of up to 8 years and a fine of up to 50 thousand euros.
