The House of Representatives of the US Congress, at an unscheduled session on Saturday April 20, adopted a bill on the confiscation of Russian assets in favor of Ukraine, on the “ban of TikTok” and on new sanctions against Russia and Iran.
According to the head of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, the US proposal to use frozen Russian assets to issue bonds and direct the funds raised to help Ukraine carries legal risks and may be regarded as a violation of international law.
360 congressmen voted for the confiscation of Russian assets, 58 voted against. The Russian Federation’s reaction to the decisions on US assistance to Ukraine and confiscation of assets followed immediately.
Press secretary of Russian ruler Vladimir Putin Dmitry Peskov statedwhich was approved by the House of Representatives US aid to Ukraine “will make more dead Ukrainians” and enrich the United States, and threatened that the United States will have to answer for the confiscation of frozen assets of the Russian Federation:
“The decision to provide assistance to Ukraine was expected and was predictable. This will further enrich the United States of America and further ruin Ukraine, causing more Ukrainians to die through the fault of the Kyiv regime.”
He said that if the United States confiscates frozen Russian assets, they “will have to answer for it”:
“And there are unlikely to be any time restrictions here. And we will do this in a way that best suits our interests.”
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova statedthat the aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan approved by the US House of Representatives will “exacerbate global crises.” She called support for Ukraine “direct sponsorship of terrorist activities”, Taiwan – “interference in the internal affairs of China”, Israel – “a direct road to the escalation of an unprecedented escalation” in the Middle East.
Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, in his characteristic manner, named approval by the House of Representatives of aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan by a “vote of joyful US bastards” for “continuing the civil war of the divided people of our previously united country” and increasing the casualties of the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine. He also wished the United States to plunge into a new civil war as quickly as possible, which would lead to the collapse of the United States.
As for the confiscation of Russian assets, which are supposed to be used to help Ukraine, you need to understand that there are relatively few of them in the United States ($5 billion).
“The world is watching what Congress does. The adoption of these laws will send a powerful signal about the strength of American leadership at a decisive moment,” the White House previously commented on the bills on assistance to Ukraine. They also called on both houses of the US Congress to send them to US President Joe Biden for signing as soon as possible.
US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said that US senators will return from recess to vote on aid to Ukraine on Tuesday, April 23.
