In New York, outside the courthouse where Trump's trial was taking place, a man set himself on fire.

On Friday, April 19, a man set himself on fire outside the courthouse in New York, where the trial of former US President Donald Trump is being held.

At this time, the jury selection process was taking place there. By data Sky News, the ex-president was already preparing to leave the building before a man on the street set himself on fire. This happened in a specially designated area for protesters of Trump supporters and opponents. The man was urgently taken to the hospital.

Saturday edition of the BBC reportedthat Maxwell Azzarello, who the day before doused himself with flammable liquid and set himself on fire in front of the courthouse in Manhattan, died in the hospital. According to NBC and CNN, the man was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died soon after. Before self-immolation, he scattered proclamations with conspiracy theories around him.

NYPD leaders held a brief press conference. They reported that the deceased, born in 1987, was named Maxwell Azzarello and lived in St. Augustine, Florida. He came to New York after April 13th without his family knowing about it. The flammable liquid he doused himself with was an alcohol-based cleaner.

Officials say it is unlikely he was trying to attack any person or group of people. They believe that Azzarello was prompted to do this act precisely by his conspiracy theories. The basis for this conclusion were his posts on social networks and the contents of the brochures that the man scattered before self-immolation. He reportedly posted something on the Internet about his plans.

Police officers responded to the arson incident within two minutes of the report. The only delay was that they did not foresee any “reason why someone would need to keep a fire extinguisher ready. Nobody knew this guy was going to set himself on fire.”

During the press conference, senior police officials said they would review their security plan, although they remained confident in their approach and would make changes if necessary.

Shortly before the incident, jury selection was completed in Trump's trial for falsifying reports to conceal payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels: the last five alternate jury members were selected.
