According to NBC and CNN, the man was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died soon after. Before self-immolation, he scattered proclamations with conspiracy theories around him.

NYPD leaders held a brief press conference. They reported that the deceased, born in 1987, was named Maxwell Azzarello and lived in St. Augustine, Florida. He came to New York after April 13th without his family knowing about it. The flammable liquid he doused himself with was an alcohol-based cleaner.

Officials say it is unlikely he was trying to attack any person or group of people. They believe that Azzarello was prompted to do this act precisely by his conspiracy theories.
