The European Union announced its position on ending the war in Ukraine

All 27 member countries of the European Union have a common, clear and definite position regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine: they will support it until victory.

Speaker EU Peter Stano said at a briefing in Brussels on Friday that Ukraine is a victim of Russian aggression, so it will determine the terms on which this war will end. How reports correspondent of Ukrinform, this is how he responded to journalists’ request to comment on reports from some Western media about the likelihood of exchanging Ukraine’s membership in the EU and NATO for territorial concessions at the expense of territories temporarily occupied by Russia. Stano emphasized:

“In general, we do not comment on media reports citing unnamed sources. What really matters is the EU position, which is agreed upon by all 27 member states. This position is to support Ukraine for as long as necessary until its rightful victory in this war. This is precisely the position of the European Union.”

The EU speaker noted:

“The conflict will ultimately find its solution one way or another. However, according to the EU’s position, it must be found on Ukraine’s terms. It will be up to her to decide when the time comes to discuss any concessions, conditions or anything else. All “It is entirely in the hands of Ukraine. The European Union continues to provide Ukraine with all possible assistance to ensure that it wins this legitimate defense war.”

Recently, the EU speaker noted, the efforts of the Kremlin leadership have intensified, trying to impose on Western politicians and the public the idea of ending the Russian war against Ukraine through “negotiations” on territorial concessions and abandonment of European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

According to ISW, recent statements by Russian Foreign and Defense Ministers Sergei Lavrov and Sergei Shoigu may indicate such an intensification of Russian rhetoric regarding negotiations. According to media reports, Vladimir Putin, at least since September 2023, through intermediaries, has been sending signals about his alleged readiness for a ceasefire in the war against Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that a diplomatic end to Ukraine’s war with Russia is possible only on the basis of a peace formula that provides for the liberation of all Ukrainian territories temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation.
