Where will Greeks go for Easter: the best domestic and foreign destinations


The mass departure of passengers from the two largest airports in Athens and Thessaloniki began last weekend and peaked on Wednesday 2/5, in the middle of Holy Week.

According to AEGEAN, the Greeks' favorite places to celebrate Easter are Corfu, Ikaria and Sitia. However, as for the foreign preferences of the Greeks, the leader on the list is Morocco – tickets for flights to Marrakesh sold out like hot cakes, as did those to Malaga, Naples and Stockholm.

On the domestic side, from AEGEAN's base in Athens, flights from 26 April to Holy Saturday had a occupancy rate of over 80%. While return traffic (returning home after the Easter holidays) is already recording an occupancy rate of over 90%, with the peak occurring on Tuesday 7 May.

Main domestic destinations from Athens: Corfu, Ikaria, Sitia, Ioannina, Zakynthos and Kos. Main domestic routes from Thessaloniki: The level of reservations for domestic flights has reached 90%, and there are no seats at all for return flights. Popular destinations: Kos, Samos, Chios, Mytilene, Rhodes, Lemnos.

In addition, routes such as Athens-Thessaloniki, Athens-Heraklion, Athens-Rhodes and Athens-Chania, as a rule, traditionally have high occupancy rates. AEGEAN pays special attention to the movement of special categories of passengers, such as students, military personnel, teachers, etc.

Airliners operating routes abroad from Athens International Airport have a fairly high occupancy rate: from 75% to 82%, with peak traffic occurring in the middle of Holy Week (2/05). While from Macedonia Airport the average occupancy rate for international flights ranges from 80% to 86%.

From Athens, the most preferred foreign destinations are Marrakech, Lisbon, Malaga, Naples, Paris and Stockholm, and from Thessaloniki airport – Paris, Barcelona, ​​Rome, Larnaca, Berlin, Frankfurt.
