Agios Anargyros: questions about the murder of Kyriaki Griva are growing

With each new fact, more and more questions are raised by the murder at the Agios Anargyros police station, where 28-year-old Kyriaki sought help and protection, but was eventually stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend.

New evidence of the criminal indifference of the authorities is emerging, for example, the fact that the police didn't even take the victim's detailswhen she came to the station to ask for help. They spent only 5 minutes with her, as follows from the statement of the duty officer. They asked the man who came with her to the station to provide them with her details for confirmation a few minutes after she died in front of their eyes.

They didn't even ask her name

“If you ask me, that conversation lasted about 5 minutes, so the time they left must have been 10:15 p.m.” – said a 22-year-old policewoman who was on duty from 22:00 to 06:00 that fateful night in her statement.

Even more outrageous is the fact that both the duty officer and the deputy head of the Agios Anargyros police station, who was on duty as an inspector, did not ask for the details of the criminal or a description of his external features so that – even if they had sent a police car to her home – they could find him.

Indications A.Υ. very revealing: “After I came down, I called a man (a friend who accompanied the girl to the station) who told me that her ex-partner had stabbed her, and we went up to the office to ask him for his details and what happened. “He couldn't tell me what happened because he was so confused. I told him to just give me his ID, sit down and calm down.”

The girl who asked for help at the police station was given only 5 minutes…

“[…] When he calmed down a little, I asked him to tell me details about the woman who was lying on the ground bleeding, and he said that he only knew that her name was Kiriaki Griva. Then I asked him if he knew the man who stabbed the woman, and he said he did.

“[…] Listening to the conversations, I realized that he and his girlfriend had a relationship in high school, and since then they had not communicated. Three days ago, Kiriaki texted him asking to see him, and when they met, she explained that she had broken up with her ex-boyfriend, to whom she was engaged, and that she was afraid of him, without saying why exactly.”

Agios Anargyros Police Station

Conflicting evidence – the police looked at the killer without disarming him. The question of who ultimately removed the knife used in the murder also remains unanswered, as the statements of the guard and the duty officer do not match. In fact, from the testimony of the officer on duty, it follows that the guard did not disarm the killer immediately after the crime was committed. Instead, officers tried to understand what happened. They watched him sitting on the curb, apparently unaware that he was still holding the knife he had just used to stab his ex-girlfriend. The police essentially allowed the killer to watch his victim die.

“Arriving at the station, I saw a woman who had just been in our office, lying on the ground on her stomach, there was a lot of blood around her, and she was convulsing. Next to her, on a bench in front of the sentry post, a man was sitting, bending slightly left, and his right hand was lying on his body. While I was trying to understand what happened to the man who left with the woman I told you about, the one who was standing next to the guard told us that she was stabbed by the aforementioned man.”– the service officer testified.

“While searching for a knife, I saw how a man who was sitting raised his right hand with a knife and stuck it into his neck on the left side. Seeing this, I immediately told the sergeant who was nearby to take the knife from his hands. He took the knife from him, threw it on the ground, and I threw it away so that the man could not reach it.”.

The above, combined with audio documents, emerging video footage and witness statements, reveal a number of errors and omissions on the part of the police and raise serious questions about the level of training of the officers, as well as their suitability for their positions.

EL.AS announced the dismissal of 6 police officers who… were transferred to other departments

While the administrative investigation into the incident is ongoing, the headquarters of EL.AS. ordered the transfer of six police officers involved in the death of Kiriaki Griva. In particular, the head of the Agios Anargyros police station and the police guard who was on duty at the post were transferred to the transport department of the Greek police in Amygdaleza. The deputy commander – the duty officer and the rescue service officer – were transferred to the Department of Foreigners, and the duty officer and the police driver were transferred to the Transport Department.

Teleconference led by Chrysochoidis

Meanwhile, Civil Protection Minister Michael Chrysochoides held a teleconference with more than 2,500 police officers this morning on the issue of domestic violence. The aim is to give strict instructions and present a set of guidelines on what should be done in such cases in the coming period.

The criminal tried to convince him that he didn’t remember anything

Media reports that the 39-year-old killer was essentially unrepentant; during his testimony, he did not say a word about his victim. In his note, he claimed that he did not remember anything – neither the stabbing at the police station, nor the fact that he took a kitchen knife with him. The offender was taken into custody, but will temporarily remain in the psychiatric hospital of Korydallos prison.

“I don't remember what happened. Today I found out that I harmed Kiriaki.” – he said and, citing serious psychiatric problems, asked to be found guilty of his crime.

In other words, he asked not to be detained due to psychiatric problems or to reduce the charge and place him in a psychiatric hospital, which was ultimately decided. As a result, he remains in custody, but will be temporarily held in the psychiatric hospital of Korydallos prison.
