KNIISE about the rocket "Zircon": "Flies in the wrong place" (video)

After the attacks on February 7 and March 25, Ukraine assessed the Russian Zircon missile.

According to Andrey Kulchitsky, head of the military research laboratory of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise (KNIISE), the specific combat mission of the Zircon missile is do not comply: “She’s not flying where she’s supposed to go.” Kulchitsky made such conclusions based on the results of an examination of rocket debris.

On the morning of March 25, explosions occurred in the Ukrainian capital, immediately after the air raid warning was announced. Remains of rockets fell in several areas of the city: in the Solomensky district, two private houses were damaged, in Goloseevsky, the remains of rockets fell in a forest belt. A household in the Darnytskyi district was affected. And the greatest destruction occurred in the Pechersky district of Kyiv, where debris fell on one of the buildings of the educational institution. As a result of the attack, 10 people were injured, two were hospitalized.

As follows from messages air forces, during a missile attack on Kyiv on March 25, the Ukrainian military destroyed two ballistic missiles launched by Russia from the territory of Crimea. The Zircon missiles were shot down by Ukrainian air defense forces, and experts have completed the identification of all the debris. One of them clearly shows that it was shot down by the Patriot system. Based on the results of the examination of the Zircon fragments, Andrei Kulchitsky noted on March 27:

“This missile does not fulfill its combat mission. Everything that is loaded, all the characteristics of “super”, “hyper” – all these are words, but in fact the missile still has a long way to go before it can be used in combat. It flies in the wrong place, does the wrong job , for which it is adapted.”

He assured that Ukrainian air defense is capable of shooting down Zircons and said that the warhead of this missile contains no more than 40 kilograms of explosives:

“We are still conducting analyzes to determine what kind of substance is there. But the warhead is small, incomparable to the warhead of missiles such as the X-101 and X-22.”

The Russian attack on March 25 injured 10 people. Buildings were destroyed in the Pechersk district of the capital. The Russians first struck Kyiv with Zircon on February 7th.

Zircon is a Russian anti-ship cruise missile. Moscow argued that the missile is hypersonic and capable of reaching speeds of more than Mach 8 (about 10 thousand kilometers per hour) and evading any existing air and missile defense systems. In addition to ships, the missile is also capable of hitting ground targets.
