Head of the FSB Alexander Bortnikov: “The attack on Crocus was organized in Ukraine”

The head of the Russian Federal Security Service, Alexander Bortnikov, made a statement in which he directly blamed Ukraine for the attack on Crocus.

Answering a question about the evidence collected by Russian intelligence services about who could have planned the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall, which killed 139 people, Bortnikov replied: “The primary data that we received from the detainees confirms this (Ukrainian trace – ed.). Therefore, we will further refine the information that should show us whether the presence and participation of the Ukrainian side is real or not. In any case, for now there is every reason to say that this is exactly the case.”.

The FSB director included information according to which the terrorists planned to go to Ukraine after the crime. “The bandits themselves intended to go abroad, specifically to the territory of Ukraine. According to our preliminary operational information, they were expected there,” – he clarified. According to Bortnikov, the Islamists alone could not have prepared this terrorist attack; they were helped. “I can definitely say that there is a political background. And the Islamists alone were unable to prepare such an action. Of course they got help.”he concluded.

“We believe that this is true. In any case, now we are talking about the real evidence that we have. For now this may be general information, but they have a long history of this kind,” – he said, taking part in an extended meeting of the General Prosecutor's Office of Russia.

Bortnikov believes that Ukraine is trying to prove that it is fully capable of such attacks. “What is she doing to demonstrate this ability? She expects to carry out sabotage and terrorist acts in the rear. Both the heads of the Ukrainian intelligence services and the British intelligence services are planning this. The US intelligence services also reported this,” – he said.

He noted that a large amount of information is publicly available, “which indicates that the West and Ukraine are seeking to cause even greater harm to our country.”
