A 32-year-old German citizen of Iraqi origin who stabbed a 22-year-old girl to death in Erma last Friday was sent to the bullpen today after testifying in court for three hours.

The backpack saved the girl’s life

After a bloody attack on the main street of Athens, the victim Nikoleta underwent a 3-hour operation. Doctors say that “she was lucky” – the blow was aimed at the heart.

Today, the defendant pleaded guilty to attempted murder and violating the weapons law, and after the end of his testimony he left the court in handcuffs. During the preliminary investigation, the accused claimed that he wounded the unfortunate girl with a knife because he thought: she was an agent and was watching him.

It is noted that the girl was taken to the Evangelismos hospital, where she underwent surgery to repair injuries to her chest and ribs, and is still being treated in the intensive care unit.

Chronicle of a knife attack on Ermu Street

The incident occurred on Friday around 13:30 at the intersection of Ermou and Fokionos streets. The girl was heading to work with her friend. A little behind her there was a criminal who approached her and stabbed her in the back, after which he remained standing in the middle of the street, where he was arrested.

Having stumbled upon the backpack on the girl’s back, the knife “slipped” and changed direction, which saved Nicoleta, Evangelismos doctors believe. The two blows resulted in a ruptured diaphragm, severe lung damage and a broken rib.

She avoided death, remains in contact with others after surgery, and did not have to be intubated. However, the treating doctors said the first 48 hours were critical.

It is known about the criminal that he is an Iraqi with a German passport, presumably arrived in our country through Serbia, probably by road, and had no previous problems with the law. Eyewitness attacks says:

“I suddenly see a young girl with a backpack on her back and I see him, he’s a foreigner, he pointed a knife at her and I thought he was going to rob her. The girl screams “help, help” and throws away the bag.”

A street vendor reported: “I suddenly saw a short guy with a knife, a butcher knife. He plunged the knife into the girl’s back. He stood there and watched where the girl went, and now I say that, judging by the way he stood, he can strike others.”

As recorded on the mobile phones of passers-by, after the bloody attack, the man continued to firmly hold the knife in his hands, remaining at the scene until the police approached him and handcuffed him, writes newsbreak.gr.

After everything that happened, a reasonable question arises, even two: TOIt is possible that none of the police officers patrolling the area saw the criminal, walking openly along a shopping street with a 24-centimeter knife in his hand? Can citizens now be sure that they wouldn’t be suddenly attacked in the theoretically “safest” part of town while they were carefree walking or shopping?
