Katharina Barley, Deputy Speaker of the European Parliament and the leading candidate of the German Social Democrats in the upcoming European elections, stated this in an interview with Tagesspiegel. When asked whether the EU needs its own nuclear weapons, Barley replied: “On the road to a European army, this could also be a topic of discussion.”
Regarding Ukraine, she said that if the United States ceases to be its main arms supplier, then “Europe will have to take on this responsibility.”
“If Putin publicly questions the territorial integrity of Poland and Lithuania, it shows how vigilant we must be.”Barley said and called for Putin’s threats to be taken seriously.
