Yahya Shinwar, the political leader of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, was today (16/1) included in the list of terrorists sanctioned by the European Union for the Islamist Palestinian movement’s surprise attack on Israel last October.
As part of the sanctions, Shinvar’s funds and other financial assets are frozen in member countries EUand European organizations are prohibited from providing funds and financial resources to the Hamas leader.
Shinwar, 61, born in the Khan Yunis refugee camp, was elected leader of Hamas in Gaza in 2017 and was one of 1,027 Palestinians released from Israeli prisons in exchange for the release of an Israeli soldier held in Gaza in 2011.
Shinwar is considered the architect of the October 7 attack on Israel.
