On Saturday May 4, Holy Saturday, Israeli authorities arrested the Greek consul's security guard. After some time he was released.
The incident occurred during the lighting of the Holy Light at the Holy Sepulcher, amid general movement and disorder. For reasons yet unknown, Israeli police arrested a security guard at the Greek consul in Jerusalem. After diplomatic actions, he was released some time later. Palestinian sources who broke the news say, as quoted by CNN Greece:
“Israeli occupation forces today arrested the personal guard of the Greek consul in Jerusalem while he was in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in the Old City of Jerusalem. Eyewitnesses reported that the occupation police on Saturday physically attacked the personal guard of the Greek consul in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher during the Holy Light ceremony and arrested him.”
