As MEGA found out, the police knew about two executions and about a new redistribution of power in the leadership of organized crime, which began in June 2023.
Police had known for months that the next target in a series of mafia executions would be Vangelis Zambunis, who was killed Sunday morning outside the gas station he operated in the Neos Cosmos area.
Journalist Vassilis Lambropoulos reported this in the main news release of the MEGA TV channel. According to police, before the execution he knew about the order to kill Vassilis Rumpetis, who was killed in June last year near his home in Korydallos along with his best man.
Two SMS for June last year
According to the revelations of Vassilis Lambropoulos, information about two orders for liquidation in the leadership of organized crime was received by the Greek police (ΕΛ.ΑΣ) at the beginning of June last year via two SMS. In fact, according to the same information, ΕΛ.ΑΣ knew in advance who would be the victim of contract killings, as well as who would be the perpetrator? and who gave the order for these executions. In other words, he knew both the customers and the reasons for the murders.
However, no measures were taken to prevent these executions. It should be recalled that the double murder in Korydallos occurred in early June, a few days after the information was received by the Greek police, which, in fact, confirmed its authenticity. Seven months later, a second death contract was confirmed with Vangelis Zambunis as the victim.
Why Zambunis had no insurance that fateful night
Vangelis Zambunis knew that he was a target and took self-defense measures and had personal security. However, on that fateful night of execution, he was alone. According to Vassilis Lambropoulos, there is information that in recent months the 44-year-old man did not have security. And this was his own conscious choice, since he feared betrayal and the possibility of information leaking from his guards to a rival gang. Therefore, he considered it safer to travel alone, which did not save him.
