A forty-five-year-old man and his fiancée went missing in Ilija, his car being swept away by rapid water on Monday in the Plutochori area of the Andritsaina-Krestena municipality.

Yesterday, the body of a 38-year-old woman was found 1.5 km from the car, and divers and rescue services using equipment continue to search for the man. Hopes of finding him alive are fading.

Apparently the couple tried to cross the bridge at the entrance to the village, but thirty meters before it, a stream of water threw the car to the left side of the road, it crashed into the curb, and the driver’s door was blocked.

Divers searched the car found under water, and then it was pulled ashore and carefully examined again – there were no traces or clues. The water pressure was so strong that the passenger door could not open. The search doesn’t stop writes publication tempo24.news. Rescuers intend to continue their efforts in the Kovitsa stream, where the water level has dropped, as well as in the area of the Alfeios river.

The dramatic seconds shortly before the couple’s car was “lost” in traffic are described on the morning of Wednesday 17 January by the head of Plutochorio. According to him, everyone shouted at the man and woman to leave, and he said about the driver that he was very experienced.
