How it was hacked "Kyivstar"

Russian hackers who broke into Kyivstar’s security used the account of one of its employees.

According to the company’s general director Alexander Komarov, the burglars hit cyber defense the largest Ukrainian mobile operator through a compromised account, quotes “Economic truth”:

“We must admit that this attack penetrated our defenses. This happened because the account pool was compromised, the account of one of the employees was compromised, and the enemy was able to get inside the company’s infrastructure. An investigation is now underway.”

He noted that the conclusions of the investigation are still unknown to him, but added that the issue is not technology, but that in any organization there may be people who “conditionally target Russian missiles or give up their passwords because social engineers work well.” Komarov said that the company used the most modern technologies to protect against cyber threats and, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, has repelled approximately five hundred cyber attacks:

“It seems to me that the example of Kyivstar shows that even the most secure infrastructure can be affected. This is real. We use the most modern technologies from global suppliers to keep the company’s perimeter closed from cyber threats. This is not the first year we have been faced with a threat Since the beginning of the war, about 500 more or less serious attacks“.

As our publication reported, carried out the attack Russian hacker group “Solntsepek”, which, according to the SBU, is close to the GRU of the Russian Federation. Komarov says:

“They did this in order to lay down the largest telecommunications infrastructure in the country, in order to sow trouble, to emotionally shock the Ukrainians… The war continues – this is one of the ways of war against Ukraine.”
