Russian hackers claimed responsibility for the attack on "Kyivstar"

A group of Russian hackers announced their involvement in a cyber attack that led to the destruction of the network infrastructure of the Ukrainian telecom operator Kyivstar.

Currently, the mobile operator, together with the SBU, continues to work to restore services. Statement Security services of Ukraine:

“Responsibility for the attack has already been claimed by one of the Russian pseudo-hacker groups (according to Russian media reports – “Solntsepek”). It is a hacker unit of the main directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (better known as the GRU), which thus publicly legalizes the results of its criminal activities. The SBU continues to document the Russian cyber attack on the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine as another Russian war crime.”

According to preliminary calculations, on December 13 it is planned to restore fixed-line Internet for households, as well as begin the launch of mobile communications and the Internet. The digital infrastructure of Kyivstar has suffered critical damage, so restoring all services in compliance with the necessary security protocols takes time, writes “PU”.

How told our publication earlier, the Ukrainian mobile network Kyivstar stated that it had become the target of a “powerful hacker attack.” Its clients were left without telephones and Internet access, and air raid sirens stopped working in one Ukrainian city. On Tuesday 12 December morning there were reports that people and businesses had lost mobile and internet signals. The power outage also caused air raid sirens in the city of Sumy, located in the northeast of the country. Military authorities said they would send police and ambulances to warn residents of any incoming missile or drone strikes.
