Ministry of Defense: subpoenas will not be served abroad

Speaker of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Dmitry Lazutkin answered a question on Radio Liberty about serving subpoenas to Ukrainians abroad:

“TCCs will not work abroad. The Ministry of Defense cannot comment on certain actions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This (serving subpoenas abroad) looks rather unrealistic.”

He explainsthat after the entry into force of the new law about mobilization Men of military age in Ukraine and abroad will have the opportunity to update their military registration data within 60 days, including through an electronic account. When asked for clarification whether this means that men from abroad do not need to return to Ukraine to update their data, Lazutkin replied:

“It is not necessary to go to Ukraine, but if a person wants to defend the Motherland, wants to join the Defense Forces, then, of course, it is worth coming to Ukraine… For those abroad, there will be an opportunity to update military registration data in the consular institutions, as well as through an electronic account.”

However, the electronic account is currently at the development stage. According to Lazutkin, everything possible is being done to make it operational in June:

“Now everything possible is being done to ensure that such an opportunity exists. The electronic account is at the stage of active development. I communicate almost daily with people who are involved in this. There are a lot of questions, including those related to technical solutions, cybersecurity. The process is ongoing , talented people are attracted to it. It is planned that everything will start working in June, and it will be possible to upload information about yourself there, information from state registers will be pulled up there. Thus, the service will become more convenient for a larger number of citizens who are already accustomed to living with the help of a smartphone. laptop, tablet.

But at the same time, passing a military medical commission in an electronic office is not provided. We are talking only about updating data: changes in place of residence and marital status, bookings, reservations, etc.

Let us remind you that the Ukrainian government has prohibited sending international passports and passports of Ukrainian citizens abroad. In accordance with the government decree of April 23, 2024, men aged 18 to 60 years will be able to obtain documents only on the territory of Ukraine.

From April 23, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine limited the provision of consular services to men aged 18-60 years abroad, including the processing of applications for international passports and their issuance. As the ministry explained, this is due to the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada law on mobilizationwhich will come into force on May 18, 2024.
