The body of one woman was pulled from the sea Friday morning and 18 passengers on a boat that sank southeast of Agathonisi island in the eastern Aegean Sea were rescued.

A search and rescue operation was launched involving two coast guard boats and a Greek Air Force helicopter. During the rescue operations, winds blew with an intensity of 4 on the Beaufort scale.

Of the 18 people rescued, seven were at sea and 11 remained in the boat, which had taken on water, according to the coast guard. A total of 19 migrants left Turkey for Greece.

Last Friday, November 17, two smugglers dropped off about 60 migrants in the town of Porto Rafti. The illegal immigrants who disembarked from the speedboat fled to the outskirts of Porto Rafti (Attica metropolitan area) to avoid arrest, and a search operation is currently underway to find them.

The smugglers tried to escape, but were caught and arrested by the Kea Coast Guard.
